My Go-To Fly Tying Tweezers: A Look at the Renomed Flytier Series

As many of you know, having the right tools on your fly tying bench can make all the difference between frustration and a smooth, enjoyable session. Over the years, I’ve tried countless gadgets and tools, and some just rise above the rest in terms of quality and usefulness.

Recently, I’ve been making some short videos to share a few of my favorite products – the ones I genuinely rely on day in and day out. Today, I want to focus on a couple of pairs of tweezers that have become indispensable for me: the Renomed Flytier Tweezers.

Renomed has been making quality instruments since 1981, and their dedicated “Flytier” series shows they understand our specific needs.

1. The Long Precision Tweezers

First up are their Long Precision tweezers. These are what you might picture when you think of fine-tipped tweezers. They are fantastic for those really delicate tasks where pinpoint accuracy is key. I find them incredibly useful for:

• Picking out single, tiny hooks from a packet or box without fumbling.
• Grabbing individual beads easily.

The quality is immediately apparent – they are made from superb materials and manufactured to very high standards. They just feel right in the hand and do exactly what they’re supposed to do.

2. The Broad Nose Flat Tweezers (My Secret Weapon!)

Now, while the precision tweezers are great, the ones that have really made a difference for me, especially lately, are the Broad Nose Flat Tweezers from the same Flytier series.

Let’s be honest, as the years go by, sometimes our eyesight isn’t quite as laser-sharp as it once was. That’s where these broad-nosed beauties shine. You don’t need that same level of pinpoint accuracy to grab things effectively.

I find them absolutely brilliant for working with feathers. Need to strip just a few fibers off the stem? Or maybe a slightly larger bunch? With these, you don’t have to meticulously aim for that tiny point. You can just go in, clamp down gently, and grab exactly what you need. It’s removed a layer of difficulty for me, and that’s priceless. They are incredibly helpful and make tasks like preparing hackle or stripping barbs much quicker and easier.

Quality, Range, and Value

Both pairs showcase Renomed’s commitment to quality for fly tyers. They offer a solid range – I believe there are four or five different types of tweezers in their Flytier line, catering to various needs.

Final Thoughts

Whether you need the fine touch of the precision points or the easy-grabbing power of the broad nose (especially if your eyes appreciate a bit of help!), I can highly recommend the Renomed Flytier tweezers. They are well-made, practical tools that have earned their keep on my bench.
