Snow Shoe Rabbit Foot Prep

Snow Shoe Rabbit Foot Prep

In this short, but useful tutorial I’ll show you how I prep snow shoe rabbit and hares feet ready for tying. Using this simple technique, you can get the most out of your feet for wings and dubbing.

Snow Shoe Rabbit Foot

Snow shoe hare. Sometimes incorrectly referred to as ‘snow shoe rabbit’ the course fur from the hind feet of this North American hare bears some resemblance to seal’s fur in texture and has a similar translucence. The material has been popularized in the US with the pattern called ‘The Usual’ and Tom Rosenbauer’s Snow shoe emergers. Snow shoe hares underfur makes an excellent dry fly dubbing, floating higher and longer than most other natural materials. In Scandinavia, Arctic hare foot is a reasonable substitute.

In the follow up video I will demonstrate hoe to mount a show shoe hare wing.
